An ancient unit of measure for grain. The term refers to the measure of grain of the new barley harvest that was cut on the 16th of Nissan (which corresponds to the month of April) and offered to the Temple, after which the harvested grain could be used. From that time it is seven weeks until the festival of Shavuot.
